While at Hornet, I had the opportunity to work on the music video for Colors and Shapes, by the late Mac Miller, off of the Faces EP. It was a whimsical homage to the artist, including lots of cameos and nods to Miller's life, interests, and career. But the most heart-tugging one is our main character - Mac's dog Ralphie.
My role mostly comprised of modeling, look development, and set dressing. I did preliminary lighting for some shots before handing them off for completion. See some of the assets I worked on below!
The hat is a particular star in majority of the film. Fans might remember it from Miller's video for the song Diablo, and he's worn it for other video cameos and events as well. In the Colors and Shapes video, it provides a source of hope and a sense of security for Ralphie, allowing him to overcome every trial that is presented to him.
And the poor thing certainly faces a lot of problems.. While Ralphie may not know where he's meant to go, he stays determined to keep moving forward. Two of his "adversaries", per say, were unfortunately my doing - the antique owl and the sentient junkyard.
The junkyard and its giants are made up of a bunch of different shapes (and colors, if you will), most of which I modeled based off of the Faces cover art. The sculptures and shapes are larger than life, making our canine protagonist look ever so small. They are meant to be dreamy and surreal, but also a bit clunky and off-putting.
It was a hefty project and certainly had its ups and downs, but the outcome made it worth it! Thank you to the team at Hornet for having me and awarding me the opportunity to work on this!
